YAY!!!

I finished Despereaux this past week! Yay- it was a good book! I have to admit it wasn't my favorite read, but worth the read. This wasn't my favorite of Kate DiCamillo's (Edward Tulane is still my fave of hers), but it was very interesting. My favorite character was the princess- she was such a great model of forgiving. I also got very teary-eyed when Despereaux forgave his dad- such a sweet message! Cute book, and can't wait to see the movie!
Also, I started Bud, not Buddy two days ago and am already getting into it! I love his list of "rules and things to have a f'unner life and make a better liar of yourself ". My personal fave so far is Number 3: "if you got to tell a lie, make sure it's simple and easy to remember." I think I need to make one- but leave off the "better liar" part. It will be "how to have a funner life" list. This book is great so far!

Finished

I finished Despereaux awhile ago. I was tired of only reading a few chapters as night so I went to my school library and checked it out. For my DWA(Direct Writing Assessment) we wrote about a person( or animal!) that we wanted to meet. I choose Despereaux.
I liked how how when you taste the soup you have to have more. Every character was different. Roscuro and Despereaux were both different than other mice and rats. It was sad that Migs dad traded her for a chicken. I was happy when Mig finally got what she wanted. Even though she couldn't be a princess her dad treated her like one. I didn;t really like the ending. You were waiting for a big fight between Despereaux and Roscuro. But I still thought it was a very good book.
Can't wait to see the movie!!

Finished...

Well, the girls and I finished Despereaux last night. We should have finished it weeks ago but nothing like a time committment to get you to kick it in gear. Since today is the last day of school before Christmas Break the girls wanted to take their AR test at school and if we waited they'd forget everything. So we buckled down and read for a whole 20 minutes and finished it.

We really liked it. I loved all the references of dark and light. How once people, or I should say, mice and rats, found light they wanted it again. And how once they had tasted delicious soup they hungered for it, especially when they smelled it. I like it when you can relate a book to gospel principles. We always have to seek for the light, and once we have felt it we really always want it with us... As for the soup, it was something delicious and wonderful to them. So, to even smell it brought them joy. Having it outlawed brought made many of them sad, as we would be if our religion was outlawed. I know I'd be like Cook, making it at night and savoring it.
I was glad the Mig was able to get back with her Dad and he treated her like a princess, that's all she really wanted.

Anyway, we loved it and hope to see the movie!
